FACTS

The history of the Ball can boast of the achievements that make it a crown jewel of the region.

  • The Sevastopol Officers’ Ball is the most ambitious officers’ ball in Russia, a benchmark event. It is the only ball with equal involvement of military and civilian couples.
     
  • The Sevastopol Officers’ Ball has become the first ball to unite officers’ couples from all Russian Fleets: the Black Sea Fleet, the Northern Fleet, the Pacific Fleet, the Baltic Sea Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla.
     
  • In 2018 the event reached an important bench mark, as it received an international status. Representatives from 10 foreign states took part in the V Grand Sevastopol Officers’ Ball — military attachés couples from Syria, Armenia, Cameroon, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Brazil, Congo, Guinea, Rwanda, Uganda. In 2019 there were guests from 15  states including Switzerland, Germany and France.
     
  • The Grand Sevastopol Officers’ Ball is a cultural and educational project. The preparation to the event is one of is most important and unique elements. During 3 months the team of professional choreographers teach officers’ and civilian couples on a daily basis. Over the years more than 5 thousand people have been prepared for the ball.
     
  • In 2019 the Grand Sevastopol Officers’ Ball entered the list of the 5 most famous balls of our time.
     
  • The organizers of the event invented and regularly carry out a unique military ballroom parade — a greeting ceremony shaped in a ballroom dance stylistics ballroom dancing with participation of military and civilian couples.
     
  • Every year the Ball has its theme and the unique military ballroom parade that never repeats itself. Previously, the themes of the event were: Ruslan and Lyudmila, A Hero of Our Time, Running on the Waves, The Captivating Star of  Happiness, Victory! In 2021 the ball is titled Symphony of the Future in honour of the 115th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich.|
     
  • The V and the VII Grand Sevastopol Officers’ Balls became the winners of the President’s Grant Contest. The V Grand Jubilee Sevastopol Officers’ Ball was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
     
  • The IV Grand Sevastopol Officers’ Ball became the best cultural event in the Southern Federal District and got the 3rd place at Russian Event Awards.  The VII Grand Sevastopol Officers’ Ball took the 2nd place at Russian Event Awards.
     
  • The VII Sevastopol Officers’ Ball got the 1st place at Russian Events Awards in the category “Culture”.
     
  • The V Grand Sevastopol Officers’ Ball was called Sevastopol’s best cultural event according to the results of People’s Choice Awards on ForPost portal.
     
  • Annually the event is covered by the leading federal and regional media, leading TV channels: Channel One, Russia 24, Russia 1, Channel Kultura, Zvezda, Channel 5, The First Sevastopolsky Channel, The First Crimean, STV, NTS, Crimea-24, MK, Auto Radio, Radio Russia, Lenta.ru, TASS.
  • In 2019 the project entered the international information arena: the Daily Mail wrote about the VI Grand International Sevastopol Officers’ Ball. In 2020, the British Telegraph wrote about the VII Grand Sevastopol Officers’ Ball.
     
  • In 2017, for the first time in Russia’s history, the Ball was broadcast live. Annually more than 700000 people follow  the event. 
     
  • Ilya Demutsky, one of the Bolshoi Theatre composers, created a symphony for the IV Grand Sevastopol Charity Officers’ Ball. The symphony “Crew” commemorates The Aleksandrov Ensemble of the Russian Army and its artistic director, the main military conductor of the Russian Federation, V. M. Khalilov. Their lives ended in the crash of TU-154 on the 25th of  December 2016.
     
  • Annually the ball team organizes a city flashmob on the 9th of May “Dance off for the Victory!”. The team of the event together with our participants, residents and guests of Sevastopol come to the main embankment to glorify with dance, as a symbol of peace and life, the heroes’ feats of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945.
     
  • In 2019 the first municipal Ball was organized at Nakhimov Square in the framework of the VI Grand Sevastopol Charity Officers’ Ball. In 2020 the tradition continued.
     
  • The Ball has witnessed 19 wedding proposals on its dancefloor.
     
  • The Ball Charity programme helped to raise funds for gifted and disabled children of Sevastopol and Crimea. We managed to provide assistance to 16 children.
     
  • Every year new musical pieces are created specially for the event. The project has 80 original orchestrations written for the event and 201 musical compositions performed at the Ball.
     
  • The Ball has its own anthem, its lyrics were written by Zinaida Toropchina, navy sailor’s spouse, who has been a Sevastopol resident for more than 40 years.
     
  • In 2020 the ball team carried out the first online ball in the world. It gathered more than thirty couples from different cities of Russia, Switzerland and Mexico. Thousands of spectators watched the livestream of the event.
     
  • The team of the Grand Sevastopol Officers’ Ball implements cultural ballroom projects in Russia and abroad. The team has experience in working with The Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre , The Moscow Conservatory, Moscow philharmonic society, Novaya Opera Theatre, Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre, TV holding Red Square, Berlin National Ballet, Brazilian Ballet Grupo Corpo, opera stars such as Jessye Norman (USA), Angela Gheorghiu (Romania), Maria Gulegina (Russia), Laura Pausini (Italy). The Ball team organized International Musical Festival  Opera in Chersonesus which was twice visited by president of Russia  Vladimir Putin, the opening ceremony of Balaklavskaya thermal power plant attended by the president.
